Wella Professionals Australia & New Zealand 2016 TrendVision Award winners announced!
Australian and New Zealand hairdressers celebrated the very best in colour and creativity with Wella Professionals at the joint national finals of the TrendVision Award 2016 (TVA). 500 of the industry’s finest gathered at the Melbourne Pavilion for a night of entertainment, creativity and hair fashion, alongside the unveiling of the TVA 2016 winners, as judged by industry experts and influential media.
Mathias Te Moananui is the 2016 L’Oréal Style and Colour Trophy NZ Hairdresser of the Year!
The L’Oréal Style and Colour Trophy Awards were held in Auckland on the 30th July. Mathias Te Moananui from Buoy Salon and Spa in Wellington was awarded the title of NZ Hairdresser of the Year at the glamorous evening event held at St Matthews in the city! Mathias will now travel to Lisbon, Portugal in October this year to represent New Zealand and compete against the world for the global title.
New Zealand ColorZoom winners announced!
The Color Zoom Challenge is one of the biggest live hair styling competitions in the world. After a national and international selection process the creative elite of hairdressers recreate their international winning looks live on stage. The Colorzoom theme was the interpretation of the D!SRUPT Collection and Gold national winners from the two categories will now go on to compete on the global stage in Stockholm later this year.
New Zealand Wella Trend Vision finalists!

Frank Apostolopoulos And Danny Pato Take Out Top Awards At Hair Expo 2016!
Frank Apostolopoulos, creative director of Melbourne’s Biba salon group, has been named the Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Australian Hairdresser of the Year. Frank joins a small circle of just four elite Australian hairdressers who have been named Hairdresser of the Year three or more times. Frank beat five others to the award and his win sees the national trophy coming home to Victoria for the eighth time in 31 years.

Barbers from all over the country came to attend New Zealand’s first Barbering Expo at Shed 10 down on Queens Wharf in Auckland. Industry Extracted 2016
It was party time at ‘industry extracted’ held for the first time at The Studio Krd. With the venue jam-packed with people the whole atmosphere felt like being at a rock concert in a nightclub. The crowd came from all over the country and we seemed to bang into lots of friends that we knew, including Julia Erben from Hair Expo. With free drinks flowing the buzz was electric! The MC for the night was Rebecca Brent from Willis York in Wellington who did a great job getting the crowd excited.

Mikaela Edwards takes Gold at International Wella Trend Vision in Berlin!
Kylie Hayes from Moha Hairdressing Dunedin and Mikaela Edwards from Runway in Gore represented New Zealand at the International Trend Vision Awards held recently in Berlin. Sixty nine competitors, from 39 countries, competed for Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in Wella’s 135th Trend Vision year. The NZARH announced the winner of the 2015 Patrick Cameron Photographic Challenge at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland on October 4th at the NZARH Supreme Awards. The inaugural L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women In Science New Zealand Fellowship award winner was honoured at a cocktail reception in Auckland hosted by L’Oréal New Zealand’s Executive General Manager, Martin Smith. NZARH announce the 2015 Editorial Stylist Awards finalists!
After six hours of deliberation, the judges for the 2015 NZARH Editorial Stylist Awards have selected the finalists from 478 images entered. Lyndsay Loveridge, Christina Sayers-Wickstead and Grayson Coutts all agreed that they were ‘Very impressed with the vast range of creative talent and ability demonstrated’. Four finalists from each of the 14 NZARH Regions represented in this year’s Editorial Stylist competition have been selected, which is sponsored by L’Oréal Professionnel.
2015 Hokonui Fashion Design Awards
It was with great pleasure that we were able to attend this year’s Hokonui Fashion Design Awards in Gore. This year marked the 27th anniversary of NZ’s longest running and most successful fashion awards. But sadly one person was missing, the show’s co-ordinator for many years Heather Paterson, who died from cancer in February. With what must have been a stressful time, Heather’s husband Wade Patterson has taken over the reins to ensure that her vision and legacy continue.
Michael Beel - Stylist Extraordinaire!
Well it has been quite a year for Wellington Stylist Michael Beel, after taking out ‘Mens Stylist of the Year’ at the Industry awards in February, he was awarded ‘NZ Hairdresser of the Year’ at the Hair Expo Awards in June! We were proud to be part of the audience that witnessed that very special occasion when Michael accepted his pinnacle award on stage at the Star Event Centre in Sydney. Emerging Kiwi fashion designer Steve Hall has taken out the top prize at the 11th annual iD International Emerging Designer Awards held at the Town Hall in Dunedin, New Zealand. Hairstylist Errol Douglas is renowned for his stunning photographic, session and event work, and has won several of the world’s most coveted awards. Brad Lepper Joins Prestigious Sebastian Professional International Artist Team!
NZ Stylist Brad Lepper has earned a place on the Sebastian Professional International Artist Team. He is the first ANZ hairstylist to be offered a place in the globally esteemed program and will now represent the brand globally at events, shows and seminars. Alternative Hair Show promises to be the biggest & best yet!

New York’s Hudson River - The world’s most spectacular catwalk!
On the 20th March in New York the Hudson River was transformed into the world’s newest catwalk. Jessica Minh Anh’s ‘J Spring Fashion Show’, presented New York, as we all know it, in a new light. Visually pushing the envelope, the fashion show created the illusion of models walking on water by having guests seated facing the multi-faceted glass windows of Bateaux New York and watch models walking in front of them while the boat was cruising.

Competition was tight for this highly coveted award which recognises the year’s most outstanding HITO apprentice. The judges selected Nadine as the overall winner because she displays motivation, commitment, and a willingness to go above and beyond to be the best. NZARH Editorial Stylist Awards 2014
On Sunday the 9th of November a celebration of New Zealand hairdressing took place on Wellington’s Queens Wharf at Shed 6, when the NZARH held their annual Hairdressing Awards. The day started in the afternoon, with the skills of 21 stylists from throughout New Zealand and Australia on display, competing in the new revamped Oceanic Masters competition. The Hairdressing Oceanic Masters is an Australasian competition that combines the WOW factor and for the first time was held in Wellington.
New Zealander Takes Top International Hairdressing Title!
A young hairdresser from Pukekohe, Auckland, is officially the one of the world’s best hair colourists. On Monday 20 October 2014 Keegan Nelson of Pukekohe’s Common Thread salon took the prize for Best Colour at the Davines World Style Contest 2014 in London. Competing with nine other regional finalists from around the world, the 22-year-old impressed the judges with his transformation of a natural light brunette into a shimmering sand blonde with delicate blue and green ribbon highlights.
L’Oréal Professionnel & Trelise Cooper team up to fight breast cancer!
Four limited edition L’Oréal Professionnel gift packs designed by Dame Trelise Cooper are to help in the fight against breast cancer. New Zealand recording artist Lorde and makeup brand M.A.C Cosmetics are collaborating on a limited-edition makeup collection due to be released this winter. Famously renowned for her sultry, deep purple lip hues, clear complexion, and lashings of mascara and eyeliner, the 17-year-old singer works frequently with M.A.C senior artist Amber Dreadon on creating her looks for events and tours. Karina Gollins wins Gold at Wella International Trend Vision Awards!
The Wella International Trend Vision Awards were held this year in Frankfurt as part of the annual Hairworld exhibition. 82 finalists from 56 countries assembled in Germany to showcase their hairdressing skills in this amazing competition. New Zealand was well represented by Mana Dave (Color) and Karina Gollins (Young Talent). The evening was hosted by NZ’s Patrick Cameron, international celebrity stylist.

Vodafone NZ Music Awards at Vector Arena
The biggest event on the NZ music calender took place on November 21st at the Vector Arena in Auckland. Thousands of fans, celebrities and the ‘who’s who’ of the music industry turned out to celebrate the annual Vodafone NZ Music Awards and then joined the after-party which continued into the wee hours. Behind the scenes the FUDGE Styling Lounge was a hive of activity with the Fudge Creative Team busy styling special celebrities, artists, and announcers for the evening!
Oceanic Grand Master Award goes to Karina Gollins!

NZ Beauty Expo gives the industry a much needed Boost!
The hype and excitement surrounding the 2013 NZ Beauty Expo was finally realised when the event opened its doors to over 2500 beauty, spa and hair professionals on the weekend of 6 & 7 July. The biennial event had been eagerly anticipated since the last one in 2011 and show visitors and exhibitors alike are commending the organisers for exceeding industry expectations and giving the industry a required boost of energy and enthusiasm.

BRITs Awards - Fudge Backstage Spa hair partner!

Guy Mascolo’s Sudden Death Leaves Hair World Saddened
Guy Mascolo, co-founder of the TONI&GUY salon group, has died suddenly of a heart attack in his home in Dallas on the 6th May aged 65. Guy [Gaetano] together with his brother Toni was the founder of TONI&GUY. Their globally renowned hairdressing company was launched in Clapham in South London in 1963 when the brothers were still in their late teens. The sons of Francesco and Maria Mascolo, the brothers learned their hairdressing skills from their father.
