NZ Beauty Expo gives the industry a much needed Boost!

The hype and excitement surrounding the 2013 NZ Beauty Expo was finally realised when the event opened its doors to over 2500 beauty, spa and hair professionals on the weekend of 6 & 7 July. The biennial event had been eagerly anticipated since the last one in 2011 and show visitors and exhibitors alike are commending the organisers for exceeding industry expectations and giving the industry a required boost of energy and enthusiasm.

Upon entering the exhibition hall, show visitors experienced an overwhelming smorgasbord of over 100 exhibitors and an exhilarating atmosphere that was infectious. Beauty professionals mixed and mingled, shared ideas and inspiration while immersing themselves in the immense variety of products and services available. Show visitor, Terry Taylor from Beauty Supplies Limited speaks of her expo experience saying, "I am happy to say that for the first time it was on par with any expo I have visited overseas and word on the street is that everyone who attended felt the same! The energy of the expo was wonderfully positive, the layout made it very easy to locate suppliers and the shows were fantastic.”

What made the event stand out from previous years was its refreshingly new additions to the event format. NZ Beauty Expo exhibitor, Peter Willis of arrow beauty describes the unique feel of the event as being "almost pageantry”. Willis goes on to say, "Full credit must go to the expo team for organising a truly successful event. The new and innovative additions like the ‘Education Pods’ and the ‘Indulge You Spa’ gave an interactive feel which I’m sure attendees found most refreshing.” The new concept of the Indulge You Spa was a tremendous success with a total of $2000 raised from all Spa Ritual treatments going to an online giving community called Social Angels.

The main stage put on a colourful display of professional catwalk performances each day. Rae Morris, highly sought after international make-up artist, recreated her favourite looks live on stage and shared her insight into the coming 2013/2014 season. The first annual Make Me Up Competition wowed the crowds with a showcase of the 7 finalists from the competition basing their designs on a ‘Cultural Heritage with a Fantasy Theme’. The Annah Stretton Styling Presentation, presented by Principal Stylist Nina McGuire, educated attendees on how to decipher their body shape and Nina gave invaluable tips on what garments best suit each body shape.

The Hair & Fashion Show, sponsored by Images Magazine, showcased cutting edge looks by Sara Allsop and Jock Robson, their inspiration being Mexican painter, Frida Khalo. Images was also the major sponsor of the visitor lounge where attendees could relax, enjoy a glass of wine and peruse the latest magazine issue. Sheryl Binnie of Images Publishing spoke of their involvement saying, "We were delighted to be part of this year’s exciting beauty expo. With the new Images Lounge concept and our sponsorship of the Hair & Fashion Show, we were able to connect with new subscribers, advertisers and catch up with many friends within the industry. We can’t wait for the next one!”.

Expo attendees took a blast into the past at the Time to Emerge retro fashion show which showcased fashion, hair and make-up from iconic eras. The Body Art Show introduced a completely new dimension of beauty and entertainment in an eye popping ‘Welcome to the Circus’ theme which saw professional painters, models, prosthetics, mask and makeup artistsall come togetherto create the animals, monsters, creatures and fantasy characters onstage that we more often see in the circus.

Prosperina Cosmetics, organisers behind the Make Me Up Competition and Time to Emerge Show, were supportive and passionate about intensifying the stage performance aspect of the event. Katrina Stubbington of Prosperina Cosmetics says, "It was a pleasure working with the team from the NZ Beauty Expo, the facilities and support from them were excellent. Both our shows went off without a hitch and with a high level of professionalism and the new initiatives brought in added a new dimension to the expo that we hadn’t seen before.”

The Business Summit attracted those with a thirst for knowledge and a commitment to better understanding the current business environment. Dr. Bill Andrews’ seminar ‘Prepare to be 24 Again!’ was in extremely hot demand and was well-timed with the recent publicity for his advancements in the field of life-extension science.

The NZ Beauty Expo is growing each year in size and diversity. The 2013 visitor numbers saw an increase of 6% from 2011 and an exceptionally high caliber of professionals in attendance, over 60% of attendees being Owners and/or Managers. Nicky Quinn, Managing Director of Probeauty says, "This is an event that we believe every beauty therapist in NZ should have in their calendar. The more support we have in the industry for exhibitors, suppliers and beauty therapists the better and stronger the industry will be.”

The positive feedback so far has left Event Organiser, Simon Gillson elated. Gillson says, "It was awe-inspiring to witness the industry get so enthused and energised at the expo. A big credit goes to our exhibitors fortheir creative approaches to stand designs and theinnovative waysthey demonstrated their products and services this year. The qualityof exhibits was a big step up on the last event and the exhibition hall looked incredible. We would also like to thank all our catwalk show partners, sponsors, seminar and education pod speakers and everyone who pitched in to make this event such a resounding success. We are looking forward to putting on another spectacular event in 2015 so keep an eye out for show dates in the near future”.
