NZARH Editorial Stylist Awards 2014

On Sunday the 9th of November a celebration of New Zealand hairdressing took place on Wellington’s Queens Wharf at Shed 6, when the NZARH held their annual Hairdressing Awards. The day started in the afternoon, with the skills of 21 stylists from throughout New Zealand and Australia on display, competing in the new revamped Oceanic Masters competition.

The Hairdressing Oceanic Masters is an Australasian competition that combines the WOW factor and for the first time was held in Wellington. Being avant-garde, it allows the imagination of our top ‘créme de la créme’ hairdressers to express themselves in a spectacular and glamorous competition that splits into two halves; The Cut and then The Conversion! For those in the audience watching, it was a real treat watching the cut turn into something really amazing before their eyes!

The first presentation to take place was the announcement of this year’s winner of the Patrick Cameron Photographic Challenge which was judged by the man himself in London. A short video featuring Patrick was shown to the audience in which he named his choice; Robyn Kirkwood from Ainsley’s Hair Design in Newmarket. Lucky Robyn will spend a day with Patrick in a ‘one on one’ workshop at his New Zealand home in New Plymouth in January!

Next up was the presentation of the NZARH Editorial Stylist Awards. A record number of entries were received this year - a staggering 698 entries for the Editorial Stylist Photographic Competition, Colour drew an impressive 143, with 36 in Le Male, 76 in Next Generation and 130 entering in the Novice section.

Judges, Grant Bettjeman, Amanda Dorcil and Julie Koberstein had their work cut out for them, selecting the finalists and all agreed that the standard of work this year was impressive across the board. Competition Committee Chairperson, David Shields said, "The standard and variety of the work submitted this year is a testament to the depth of skills and passion for hairdressing in New Zealand at all levels”.

Congratulations to Kimberley Hall from Venom who was named the 2014 NZARH Editorial Stylist of the Year!

Congratulations also to Celeste Herlihy from Key Lime Pie, the overall winner 2014 Oceanic Hairdressing Masters Award!
