New Zealand Fashion Week was officially kicked off in Auckland last night with 400 VIP’s from the fashion industry welcoming in the 19th annual Fashion Week, involving more than 100 designers staging over 50 events, to tens of thousands of attendees.
In a major first for an international fashion event, NZFW was opened by someone with accessibility needs Grace Stratton. Grace is a Young New Zealander of the Year nominee, who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair. Having become frustrated with the lack of representation for those with accessibility or physical needs within the fashion industry, she started ‘All Is For All’ an organisation that breaks down barriers for those like her.
Dame Pieter Stewart, founder of NZ Fashion Week, added: “Fashion can and should be for everyone. That’s why we’re so excited and proud to have such a strong focus on diversity and inclusivity at this year’s New Zealand Fashion Week.”
New Zealand Fashion Week runs from Monday August 26th until the close of Fashion Weekend on Sunday September 1st with select shows across the weekend available for the public to purchase. See iTICKET for details.
